Groin Hernia: Femoral

A swelling is found in the groin which is usually made up of the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum) and overlying fat and skin. It may contain fat, bowel or other intra-abdominal structures.

The peritoneum has passed through an area of weakness in the femoral canal between the femoral vessels (artery and vein) and the pubic bone. This more common in women and often occurs in thin individuals particularly after losing weight.
